As if part of a great plan, almost everything in Kate Carter's life has prepared her for her work today. From her internship in video production, embarked upon solely from a fascination with the field, to her own critical illness 19 years ago when her children were very young, her experiences and training have made her comfortable with and capable for the work she pursues each day. Even her past experience as an executive assistant was invaluable when it was necessary to mold an innovative idea, originally intended to help a dying friend, into a functioning, thriving organization intended to help any person, anywhere, in the same situation. In the past ten years, LifeChronicles, with the help of high school and college student volunteers, has produced videos for 400 families experiencing health or life crisis. Five years ago LifeChronicles was named Agency of the Year by UCSB, then Kate was named an NFL Community Quarterback and received a $10,000 award for LifeChronicles and, recently, Kate was named Adjunct Advisor to the UCSB Neuroscience Department thanks to her work with Alzheimer's patients. In 2005, LifeChronicles was featured on CBS Evening News and the December 4, 2006 issue of People Magazine featured a story on a taping done by LifeChronicles. Emails and phone calls continue to pour in from people moved by the story of LifeChronicles and interested in working with the organization. For Kate, her life has become the best of all worlds; pursuing her field of interest in a way that has meaning in the lives of others.
